Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O'neal, Dwight Howard. What do all of these people have in common? Other than the fact that they were all centers in the NBA, you could say that they have the worst free throw percentages in the NBA. But why? Why would any professional basketball basketball player have trouble shooting free throws? And how can understanding the biomechanics of basketball help someone shoot better? Also, how can consistency increase someone's shot percentage? And finally, how does can controlling what you think affect the way you shoot the basketball?
These are the essential questions that I will be answering throughout my twenty project.
For my twenty time project, I will chart myself for 2 months, shooting 50 free throws a day. I will also My goal will be to have increased my free throw percentage by the end of the two months. The reason I am choosing this topic is because I really enjoy basketball, but struggle at times when it comes to shooting it. I am really looking to make myself a better shooter by going out and shooting free throws every day.
My goals for this project are to Help myself become a better free throw shooter, To be able to teach others the biomechanics behind shooting, and to better understand how the mind works under times of stress and pressure.
I will measure my process through just keeping track of when I shoot free throws, how many I shoot, and what my shot percentage is for each set.
My plan for the next two months (from 2/26 to 4/26) is to shoot 50 free throws a day, and then keep track of my shot percentage. At the end of the two months, I will shoot 100 free throws, and compare it to the first time I shot free throws, which was in December.
I am determined to find the solution to many people's problem: "How can I be consistent in shooting the basketball?" I will successfully find that answer, and be able to teach it to other people. I want to help others benefit from this project.
